August and September are among the most popular months for engagements. It’s easy to see why. With long evenings, golden sunsets, and the end-of-summer magic in the air, it’s the perfect time for couples to say yes to forever. Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal or want to mark your engagement with a photoshoot, there’s no better place than stunning Dorset. And there’s no better way to remember it than through beautiful photography or videography.
As a Dorset-based wedding photographer and videographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting some truly special stories. One of my favourites was a surprise proposal at Durdle Door.

The Magic of Jack & Saph’s Proposal at Durdle Door
When Jack reached out, he had a clear plan: propose to his partner, Saph, during a golden hour picnic at Durdle Door, part of Dorset’s iconic Jurassic Coast. I worked closely with him in the lead-up to the day to discreetly capture the moment. He nearly got caught by Saph while talking to me on the phone, hiding in the shed. Fortunately, he managed to cover his tracks!
On the day, Jack and I arranged a time, and he updated me with their specific location on the beach. I kept my distance, camera at the ready. When Jack and Saph walked down to the water and he dropped to one knee, the emotion in that split second was unforgettable. I captured it all without intruding. After Saph said yes (spoiler alert: she did!), Jack gave the "thumbs up," and we captured a few moments in the post-engagement glow, letting the joy of the moment settle in naturally.
“We would love you to share your work 🤩 You did so amazing capturing the moment for us!!” – Saph

Why Book a Photographer or Videographer for Your Proposal or Engagement Shoot?
Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal or you’ve already said yes, here are a few reasons why you’ll never regret capturing this part of your story:
It’s a Once-in-a-Lifetime Moment
You only get engaged once. Having those reactions, emotions, and memories captured professionally means you can relive it again and again.
It Helps You Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera
Many couples use engagement shoots as a relaxed warm-up before their wedding day, especially if they’re a little camera-shy. It’s a chance to work with your photographer and ease into it all without any pressure.
The Photos and Video Are Perfect for Announcements
Your engagement shoot images or proposal film can be used for your save-the-dates, wedding website, social posts, or even printed guest books.
You Can Include Audio
If you choose videography or hybrid coverage, I can discreetly record your partner’s reaction and words. This turns the proposal into a cinematic keepsake that gives you goosebumps every time you watch it.

Dorset Makes the Perfect Backdrop for Your Love Story
From sweeping coastal views at Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks, and Lulworth Cove, to woodland escapes in the New Forest or quaint villages like Corfe Castle, Dorset is overflowing with romantic backdrops. I’m happy to suggest locations based on what vibe you’re after – wild, dramatic, gentle, coastal, or countryside.

Photography, Videography, or Both?
I offer three types of coverage for engagement and proposal shoots:
Photography only – beautifully edited images to treasure forever.
Videography only – a cinematic short film to relive your moment.
Hybrid coverage – the best of both worlds (photos + short film).
If you’re planning a proposal, I’ll work with you to scout the best light, plan where I’ll be hidden, and ensure everything runs smoothly. Want to add audio? I can mic you up discreetly so the exact words and reactions are recorded.

Let’s make your “yes” a moment you can see, hear, and feel for the rest of your lives.
