If you’re newly engaged and thinking about having some photos together before your wedding day, this might be the perfect opportunity. Featuring Real Engagement Shoot Moments Across Dorset

For a limited time, I’m offering my bespoke couple portrait sessions for £125 instead of £250. Even better, if you go on to book me for your wedding photography, you’ll receive £99 back in credit towards your wedding collection.
These sessions are relaxed, fun, and designed to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera long before your wedding day arrives.
As a documentary wedding photographer based in Dorset, my focus is always on capturing real moments rather than stiff poses. Engagement sessions are the perfect chance to experience that approach in a low-pressure environment.
One of the most common things couples tell me when they first get in touch is:
“We feel awkward in front of the camera.”
The truth is, almost everyone feels that way at first.
That’s why engagement sessions can be so valuable. They give you the chance to relax, get comfortable, and realise that the best photos aren’t posed at all.
1. It helps you feel more relaxed on your wedding day
Think of it as a dress rehearsal for your wedding photography.
During your engagement shoot, you’ll see how I work and how natural documentary photography actually feels. Most of the time, we’re simply walking, chatting, and enjoying the scenery while I capture those candid moments.
By the time your wedding arrives, you already know what to expect — which means far less stress and far more natural photos.
2. You get to know your photographer
Your photographer is with you for most of your wedding day, so feeling comfortable together makes a huge difference.
An engagement session gives us the chance to meet properly, have a chat, and build that trust before the big day. I usually suggest grabbing a tea or coffee before we begin so we can relax and get to know each other.
Many couples tell me this makes them feel much more confident and at ease when their wedding day arrives.
3. You can capture beautiful portraits without wedding day time pressure
Wedding days move quickly.
Although we always set aside time for couple portraits, it’s often limited because you want to spend time with your guests.
An engagement session gives you the freedom to enjoy your portraits without any time pressure, in a relaxed setting where we can take our time and explore beautiful locations.
4. You get photos you can actually use before the wedding
Your engagement photos can be used for all sorts of things:
Wedding invitations
Wedding websites
Save-the-date cards
Guest books
Prints for your home
And because I provide a full digital gallery, you’re free to print and use them however you like.
Engagement Photos vs Wedding Photos – What’s the Difference?
This is a question couples ask all the time.
Engagement photos
Engagement photos are relaxed, informal portraits taken before your wedding.
They usually take place at a meaningful location and focus on capturing your relationship naturally — walking, laughing, talking, and simply enjoying being together.
They are about celebrating this stage of your relationship and helping you feel comfortable being photographed.
Wedding photography tells the story of your entire wedding day.
This includes everything from getting ready and the ceremony to the celebrations with friends and family. It’s much more fast-paced and documentary in nature, capturing the real moments as they happen.
Why couples benefit from both
Having an engagement session beforehand means:
You feel comfortable with your photographer
You understand how documentary photography works
Your couple portraits on the wedding day feel effortless
It’s one of the best ways to ensure your wedding photos feel natural and authentic.
Beautiful Dorset Locations for Engagement Photos
One of the things I love most about photographing couples in Dorset is the incredible variety of locations we have on our doorstep.
Some of my favourite engagement shoot locations include:
One of my favourite couple sessions took place on the beach at Durdle Door along the Jurassic Coast.
The walk down is certainly steep (and the climb back up can be a workout!) but the views are absolutely worth it. The dramatic coastline creates an incredible backdrop for natural, cinematic portraits.
Hengistbury Head
If you love coastal scenery but want somewhere a little more accessible, Hengistbury Head is a fantastic option.
It offers stunning sea views, sandy paths, and open landscapes — perfect for relaxed documentary-style photography.
The New Forest
If the beach isn’t your vibe, the New Forest National Park is an amazing alternative.
It’s ideal for couples who feel a little more self-conscious and would prefer somewhere quiet and secluded. Despite being a national park, there are always peaceful corners where we can photograph without crowds.
Porchester Castle
For something completely different, Porchester Castle offers an incredible historic backdrop combined with coastal views.
It’s one of those locations that feels both dramatic and romantic at the same time.
Of course, the best locations are often the ones that mean something to you as a couple — where you had your first date, where you walk your dog, or even where you got engaged.
What Happens During a Couple Portrait Session?
Every engagement shoot I offer is completely bespoke, but here’s a rough idea of what you can expect.
Planning your shoot
We’ll collaborate to choose the best date, time, and location for your session.
If you already have somewhere meaningful in mind, that’s perfect. If not, I’m always happy to suggest some beautiful Dorset locations.
Starting the session
I often suggest grabbing a tea or coffee beforehand so we can relax and get to know each other before the shoot begins.
We’ll then start casually — perhaps taking a walk or simply chatting while I begin capturing natural moments.
During the shoot
The session typically lasts around an hour, with 30–45 minutes of photography.
You don’t need to worry about posing. My approach is documentary-led, so I’ll guide you gently if needed while keeping everything natural and relaxed.
You’re also very welcome to bring:
Your dog
Your children
Anything that represents your life together
I’ve had several couples bring their dogs along, which always adds an extra layer of fun and personality to the photos.
After the shoot
Afterwards, I carefully select and edit the images, enhancing the natural beauty of the scene while keeping everything authentic.
You’ll receive a full digital gallery of high-resolution images — not just a limited selection — so you can download, share, and print them however you like.
Galleries are delivered within four weeks at the latest, but often within just a few days.
Special Offer – £125 Engagement Shoot + £99 Wedding Credit
For a limited time, I’m offering these bespoke couple portrait sessions for £125 (usually £250).
If you then decide to book me as your wedding photographer, you’ll receive £99 back in credit towards your wedding collection.
It’s essentially the best kind of “try before you buy” experience — you get beautiful photos together and the chance to see exactly how I work before committing to your wedding photography.
